APC Addon for Turbos-- 700 86

I finaly got around to going to a local wrecker lately and found a saab 9000 turbo. I pulled out the APC unit, the pressure transducer, and the APC Solenoid. The Knock sensor, on the other hand, was not to be found. I may have been looking in the wrong place. Can anybody give me some tips on where to find this part? What me and my buddies think was the knock sensor we didn't have the right tools to pull it out and so we couldn't get it. Also, if for some reason this part cannot be obtained from the wrecked saab, anybody know if there are any other alternatives? Could it be wired to the sensor for the EZK ignition system on the volvo? OR could I purchase a knock sensor for a good price at a saab dealer? Thanks in advance! I've also included info about the APC Project for those who don't know what I'm talking about.

Brian

Re: APC Addon for Turbos-- 700 85

The knock sensor is on the intake side, between 2 & 3. If you unravel the wiring harness, you can go from the connector to the sensor, following the grey shielded cable. Much easier to get the whole thing, you don't have o rebuild the connectors.

Re: APC Addon for Turbos-- 700 85

Remember that there are 2 types that require different torque to function correctly. The Haynes manual has pics of the different types (others??) - cant stack the different ones.

Does anyone (qualified electronic / electrical engineer) know if the single sensor can be used to provide the signal to the EZK and APC relatively simply??

Re: APC Addon for Turbos-- 700 86

Hi,

I have APC on my car I pulled the knock sensor off a 900 turbo.

"You will find the knock sensor mounted to the side of the block between cylinders 2 and three." -J. Bertram

Thats where I found mine, maybe they are mounted in a different place on the 9000?

G'luck,

Will

You wouldn't happen to have a picture of the knock sensor would you? My tech friends that were with me weren't sure what exactly was the knock sensor. We were looking at the exhaust manifold between cylinders 2 and 3, but we couldn't get it out cause we didn't have a small enough wrench to reach between the cylinders and get it. Is it possible to get this part from a saab dealer also do you think? Thanks in advance!

Re: APC Addon for Turbos-- 700 86

Brian,

There are a couple of pictures of the sensor itself on the APC page. Look under the knock sensor part of it. I ran into the same problem, the "Saab expert" at the wrecking yard I was at had no idea what the heck I was talking about.

Hope that helps,

Will

The knock sensor is Bosch part number 0 261 231 006. It is available from IPS 1-800-897-7278 at about half of dealer price.
