throttle body 700 1985

I want to remove the throttle body and clean it out with carburator cleaner. Is it pretty straightforward? Is there anything that I should be especially careful of?

Thanks

Bob Hanbury

    Re: throttle body 700 1985

I haven't had any problems with two 7xx turbo cars in 8 years cleaning their throttle bodies w/o removing the throttle position switch.

One tip...make sure the clips on the throttle linkage ends are opened (can use a small screwdriver to pop the door-like clips off, or chad-like in the modern vernacular!) before you pop the sockets off their balls. You CAN pop the sockets off w/o releasing the clips, but after a few times the plastic socket may crack (ask me how I know this...not!).

The stock gasket can often be reused a few times, but a new gasket is pretty cheap so if you can get one (buy a half dozen at a time) use it.

I haven't done it (yet), but I believe you'll need a new gasket. Also, see this page for some tips:

Pretty straight forward job but, whatever you do, make sure you mark and remove the TPS before spraying down the TB (one week and $90 later because I didn't).
