What's the easiest way to drain enuff coolant to change t-stat? 200 86

I just want to drain enuff to change the t-stat without making a mess?

    Vytas,

Charlie's is right on but BE CAREFUL. If you don't drain enough coolant out when you pop the thermostat housing off coolant will shoot out and into your timing belt cover (at least if your 86 is configured like my 93 B230f). Then you're looking changing your timing belt real soon as the coolant will cause premature aging. Don't ask how I know about such an utterly stupid mistake.

use the draincock on the block, below #4 exhaust. with a plastic hose inot a clean bucket. squeeze the upper radiator hose to find when the coolant has gone down enough. you have to loosen the expansion tank fill cap to get the block to drain.
