1987 have point and gap in the rotor ? 200 1987

I have a 1987 did it have point and gap like older car or none.

I want to replace the rotor cap...

I use a waterpump pliers or channellock pliers to crush the old rotor...wrap a rag under the rotor so bits don't drop into the distributor.

Picked up the technique from old Saabs where the furshlugginer rotor is literally glued onto the shaft to keep it from working up/off and spinning in place (does wonders for timing....).

Mrsha:

No points. Replace the rotor and cap. Use Bosch parts; there are some aftermarket caps out there that are inferior. The rotors on the '86 and later 240 cars are different from the '85 and earlier, so make sure you get the right part. They are usually VERY tight and hard to get off the shaft. You'll likely break the old one getting it off. Use a bit of plastic compatible grease to make sliding the new one on a bit easier.
