floor panels 120-130 68

hi there,

Just wondering where to get floor panels (and rubber mats) for the 122, The rest of the car is in great shape (body good, original interior no rips, only 60,000 miles). I want to get the car back on the road (it is too young to let rot in the driveway:)) (it was my mother's car, but unfortunately she is no longer able to drive it) the floor is the main area that needs work to get it going (need to work on the brakes too, but that is for another day). Let me know if you have any good sources.

Thanks

Scott

    Scott,

I know you didn't ask, but you might want to check that the windshield isn't leaking. In my experience they all do eventually, and are usually the root cause of the floor rot problem. No sense fixing the floor if it's just going to rust out again.

      Thanks bill,

I think the windsheild is okay, up here (Ontario Canada) the general cause of rusted floors tends to be years of exposure to salt and moisture from melted snow from boots. That being said for a 32 year old car the floors are not that bad, just want to fix them up properly to make the car last longer.

      Scott.

    Floor panels:

Measure up the sizes you need and go to your friendly local

sheetmetal shop. Get 16 or 18 gauge black iron.

Look out for brake and fuel lines while you are welding.

It is exciting enough without burning or melting them.

I used acetylene but a lot of guys are going to MIG wire

welders these days. You'll probably need to do a lot of

hammering and fitting to get it to look right.

Nearly all my experience with rubber OEM floormats has been

BAD, especially from the durability standpoint. They don't

even last in storage! Also anything that traps leaked water and

holds it against the floor is NOT your friend!

try Mill Supply Company of Cleveland.

They have an 800-number and paper catalog, but I am not close to either right now, or I would post them.

    Look them up on line.

Check with swedish classics and yankee trading co, one or both should have the patch panels for the floor. They may also have the rubber flooring, though I doubt it. Try getting the 800 number for ipd from ipdusa.com and ask for shane, he knows who sells carpet kits for the 122.

    Scott,

My car also had some nasty rust in the passenger footwell- most of the floor is almost flat sheet, so I took out the worst of it, cleaned the rest, and used several smaller pieces to repair it. It took several seams to get the right series of bends, but it's held strong for the last 5 years...

    66 122, soon to get a B20F...
