windshield wipers will not turn off 200 83

My windshield wipers will occassionally just turn on by themselves, and the only way to turn them off is when i disconnect them at the steering column or pull the fuse.

the only commomn denominator i can figure out is humidity/wet. where would be a place i need to start looking? I am thinking that it is wiring.

Re: windshield wipers will not turn off 200 83

Keith --

Almost without doubt, the intermittent wiper relay has moisture inside of it. It can be disassembled, washed, dried, redried, and dried again. Resolder for good luck.

Find and fix the leak — probably around the windshield, wiper pivot, or firewall.

Remove the seats and carpet and dry out the underlayment. Fix the rust holes now rotting through your floorboards.

Your wiper relay is located under the carpet near where the driver's left foot rests while driving. Pull back the carpet and pull the bundle of wires going into the black plate. The wiper relay will have some white foam glued around it. Then follow Don's instructions. Buena suerte,Genaro.

I second that. Maybe this problem is by design to alert us that we have a potential moisture problem. Why else would a solid state relay unit be shoved in an almost inaccessable spot?
