Removing Tailgate Panel 700 1990

I am trying to remove the Interior Tailgate Panel on my 1990 745. There is a 4 - 5" plastic piece just under the interior release lever. How does one remove this piece without breaking it.

    Once the bottom of the panel is loose just slide it up to get it off of the tabs that hold it in place. The four (?) tabs at the top usually break otherwise.

    It pulls off and there are two screws under it. It often brakes when you pry it off.
