i recently had a toothless ring gear and starter replaced and at the same time work done to the borgwarner 35 trans to fix an intermittent severe leak whereby occasionally it dumps half a cup or so of fluid whilst parked. Well, the filler tube was replaced as it had come away and been siliconed back into position and guess what, after sitting for a day, I started it and selected d, r ....no drive in any direction! Looking under, i could see fluid dribbling from somewhere above the exhaust pipe, onto which it was landing and smoking heaps. Switching off, I thought I'd top it up to replace the lost fluid but I could see the fluid level was high up the filler tube about 100mm from the top! So trans appears full, and after this initial belch of fluid, it stopped dribbling, so I sat there running it for another 5 mins and selecting between the gears, when all of a sudden, we now have drive! So it's off to the mechanic's (3-4 mi) via the shop where the thing now behaves faultlessly aall the way. Furthermore, once up on the hoist the mechanic can't find a problem nor find where the fluid was escaping from. (it's still with him) I should add that the leak does not appear to be coming from the small tube next to the filler pipe - i inspected carefully with a torch around the area.
All clues welcome - I am driven to exasperation given that I took it to this mechanic because the last one was beaten by this problem too!
Nevertheless, I trust he will overcome (fingers crossed)
