need Service light reset. 200 1990

I thought it would be easy to reset the service reminder light on my 1990-240DL, I have pushed on the reset button on the lower right side of the main instrument cluster. Light still comes on for 2 minutes every time I start it. Where do I go from here?

tks Lloyd in VT

Did you press the button while the lamp is on? Did you press it all the way in?

If so, the linkage may not be pressing the lever on back of speedo. I got tired of fiddling with mine and removed that assembly from back of speedo. Now the light never comes on. However, if you want to keep it original you will probably need to remove istrument cluster to see why it's not actuating lever on speedo and fix it. I had mine rigged with a zip tie for about two years, just got tired of the light and resetting....

The button you have been pushing moves a wire through a tube that bends across behind the instrument cluster. On the back of the speedometer is a switch that the end of the wire is supposed to flip, resetting the light. I have just had the same thing happen. The button will no longer reset the light.

You should be able to reach the switch somehow, without taking the instruments out, but, while I was waiting for the correct astral alignment to try, the light went out by itself.
