Rapid turn signal-- 700 1986

I've got a 760 Turbo where the parking lights and the turn signal are separate on the front of the car. When I use my right turn signal sometimes it flashes really quick and only the rear one actually works. The front one doesn't do anything. But sometimes it works too. I tried replacing the bulb but it still seems to do it. What else could be the cause? Thanks in advance!

Brian

Re: Rapid turn signal-- 700 1986

I agree the flasher is ok. I've learned the "bulb out" sensor is so sensitive (works by comparing left to right side resistance when bulbs come on) that I always replace both bulbs in the circuit or the bulb out sensor often continues to trigger the dash idiot light. I think the idiot light is a great idea, but it drives me nuts when it "false triggers" continuously.

I've also on several cars (owned 14 so far over 20+ years), had to solder new ground wires to the rear assembly sockets to make the sensor happy and keep the idiot light off.

    Good luck

Check the ground conections at the inner fender near the lamp. Also check the terminals at the bulb socket for corrosion. Rapid flashing is designed to tell you there is a problem with a bulb, as the turn signals are not conected to the bulb failure warning system. As long as it flashes, flasher relay is ok.

Is the ground connection just a wire that should be attached to the fender by a screw or something?

the ground connections (if the same as my car) are spade connections on the inner fenders on the side of the engine compartment, check for corrosion and clean them. otherwise take the cornor light unit out and check the wires there (again for corrosion etc.)

I would agree with previous post. 99% of the time a rapid flash on a turn signal is a ground connection issue. Most of the time it is the bulb that has failed, but, that is not always the case.

/// Find the flasher, under the dash and replace it. Follow the sound with the turn signals on.
