if everything you have is stock, go to volvoworld.com and look for the engine specs link on the left side and follow things from there. this is a GREAT site for specs like your looking for(and many other things).

The M47 probably came with a 3.31 rear end ratio (at least mine did). The year is stated (1986). And I would assume that the tires are 185/70/14. Do you know the hp or torque figures for a b230k engine?

Mmm, rolled out the back of a C130 and falling in a nose-down attitude I'm guessing 135-140mph. I rode down in the back of an old Honda Civic a few years ago that we rolled out at 18,000'. With all fluids out and with the engine and tranny still in it and 5 of us in it, we guessed terminal at around 130-132. The car started rolling end over end at around 10,000' and the last guy bailed out at 5,000'. The car rolled back to a nose-down attitude which it held until impact.

The things bored skydivers do on Sunday afternoons above the Arizona desert.

Do you think the Civic had any alignment issues after the equivalent of a 3.5 mile deep pothole?

Would the addition of ricer ground effects and a wing kit have given better aerodynamics?

Boy, I'd hate to get hung up in the back seat on a ride like that. That's a serious adrenaline delivery system.

No, I'm not one of the Mt. Dew guys although I knew most of them.

As far as the Civic's post accident alignment goes... there is usually not enough left of those cars to get a good reading on the alignment rack.

To get a good view of a car in freefall, albeit in extended time, check out the old Charlie Sheen movie "Terminal Velocity." I was jumping in Arizona when most of the car shots were filmed and it was a pretty awesome 2 weeks. I think they 'crashed' 13 Allantes.

When we jumped the Civic, we took off the rear hatchback. 2 of the guys were in the front seat and the other 3 of us were in the back. When the car was rotating, the centrifical force threw the 3 of us out that were in back. The 2 guys that were in front were able to open the front doors and when the car rotated over to where it was nose high, the relative wind tore the doors off and they just rolled out.

God... I can't believe the sh*t I 'used' to do. On my trip to Amsterdam next summer I'll probably get deported!

Are you one of those guys in the Mountain Dew commercials?

    Re: top speed 200 1986

At least 180km/h with a B230F backed by an M47-II, or so I've heard ;) After that you start to realize the 'aerodynamics' of a brick, although there are plenty of revs left to go. One could always play with the final gear ratio to hit the wall at the redline - ahh, what the heck, just leave it in 4th and see what she'll do.

Straight-line, pushed-to-the-back-of-your-seat performance is not really the hallmark of a 240. If you expect to get hit by a fully loaded gravel truck or think you might t-bone a deer one day, then this is the car you need. You didn't actually expect to drag race your car - and win - did you? (It might just have a chance in a rally, if properly prepped.)

PS - you only have to post the same question ONCE to get our attention.

    Enjoy the ride, and please, "obey all posted speed limits". {insert hearty laugh here}

    Re: top speed 200 1986

    khaled,

I have an '86 240GLE with the nearly the same spec as yours, B230K, I think it's an M47 gearbox (5 speed), I have a Webber carb fitted to mine though.

I can't tell you the official top speed of this spec 240, but best I got out of mine on the flat was 112 mph (186 kph), I might have had the wind behind me? I do know it took ages to get there!

I'm using 185/70 R14 Pirelli P3000 energy tyres @ 35 psi, not the best grip in the world, but it certainly rolls a lot easier than with the horrible cheap tyres that were on it when I got the car, so maybe there's better value for horse power in that.

If you have any info on the B230K, I'd really like to know, especially the figures they should be getting on the machine when I have the Webber carb tuned, my regular Volvo mechanic tryed to set it up and just made things worse, less performance using more fuel, the day before I had to drive 1500 miles!

    Good luck sorting your problem.

Me, I have the fuel injected B230F, 180km/h and it takes not as long as you can expect....

The other teenagers I past were really stoned with their little honda. :)
