Resetting Radio Following Battery Disconnect 700 1991

Greetings! I had my engine removed and remanufactured. In the process, the battery was disconnected and I now get an "EEE" read on the radio panel. Is there any way to easily reset? Thanks!

Re: Resetting Radio Following Battery Disconnect 700 1991

If the theft code isn't in your paperwork, a dealer can look it up with the vin number. You may have to show them the title to prove you own the

car, as the code is designed to deter theft in the first place.

When the battery is hooked up, use the keypad to enter the numbers and it'll, in a couple seconds, give you the "normal" led text and you're done.

The stereo gives you two chances to enter the code correctly, and if not done correctly, locks you out from trying again for 2 hours.

I learned a trick from a Volvo mechanic. Before disconnecting the car battery, connect a 9 volt battery to a cigarette lighter standard adapter

and put the adapter in the car cigarette lighter, then disconnect the car battery.

Enough current is provided by the 9v battery the car doesn't know it's battery has been disconnected (you fool the computer), and you don't have to enter the theft code.

hope this helps

Re: Resetting Radio Following Battery Disconnect 700 1991

Terry:

There is a four digit code that must be punched into the radio using the six preset station buttons on the front of the radio after power has been disconnected. Hopefully, this number is recorded somewhere in the literature provided by Volvo to new owner (my code was written in the owner's manual). If you are unable to find your radio code in this literature hopefully someone else can help you track down the correct code and get it working again. Be careful, I remember reading some place that after the incorrect code is entered a certain number of times the radio is locked out. Good luck
