    Re: WINDSHIELD QUESTION 200 1987

I defer to my esteemed web colleagues you agree that yes it will fit.

I am adding my $0.02 to point out that for once as luck would have it the longevity of Volvo 240 series in average vehicle life and design life means that a part is cheap. The windshield is an often replaced item - most moderate accidents and especally stones thrown up from gravel roads often require the replacement of windshields. You might want to investigate to cost of a brand new windshield - it might be less than the headake to buy new and have it installed then to move a used windshield to your car - especally if the used one is well used (light scratches etc.)

    The story:

When I got a bad stone chip in 1992 in my '84 245 I thought it was going to brake the bank and I would be SOL. My sister had just had the windshield replaced on her '87 Toyota Camery - a fairly ubiquitous auto on the roads in 1992 and it was well over $450. So I started calling around to get estimates - they started coming in around $200, so I asked - that is a new windshield that meets Volvo specfications? I was told yes - in fact the windshield was made in Sweeden by the same company who supplies them to Volvo - the name of the glass maker eludes me at the moment and this was 1992 - I had access to gopher but nothing like the brickboard.

You know I wonder it wasn't until 1994 that I discovered the Washington area Volvo club list-serve which I remember ending to become part of the Brickboard.

To finish making a short story long I got my sweedish made windshield installed for $173.00 (once I told them I was paying cash the price dropped since I wasn't involving an insurance company)

If you are doing the removal and replacement yourself, do a search of the archives for "replacement windshield", "windshield replacment" or words similar.

I posted extensively on this last Spring.

    Nothing to fear.....
