Do any 240's have remote boot (trunk) release? 200

I am wondering if any 240's have a remote boot release (a button to release the boot- or trunk if you live in US). If so, is it easily transferable to a 244? if not, Do the 740's or 940's have a release that could be transferable? Thanks in adavnce.

My 1984.5 244 GLT has one. It works alright, but if you remove it (for any reason), you may need to adjust its operator-rod length to the boot (er. trunk)-lock mechanism to allow it to unlock properly after pushing its button switch in the glovebox.

Re: Do any 240's have remote boot (trunk) release? 200 81

Yes, 240s and 260 do have electric trunk openers, located in the glove box, as everyone else has said. I recently installed one found at a parts yard into my 81, so I'll try to hit the important parts.

There are 2 different styles of trunk locks on 240s, pre 86 models (or 81 if not in the US) and 86 and later models, and each has its own type of motor. The 740/760 models I saw all had the exact same motor and lock as the post 86 240s, which is the rectangular chrome looking one, as opposed to the little round circle type. Any lock can have a motor added to it, all you have to do is snag the motor and the little arm that connects it to the lock. The holes to mount the motor to are already in the trunk/boot, and after pulling one out of a car it'll be easy to get one in. I had no real problems putting my older style one in, there are some pictures in the Bently manual somewhere that may be helpful.

The button for the glovebox is simple to install, its just a push button thing, but it looks a lot better if you grab the little metal plate with the picture of the open trunk on it. Simple two wire hookup on the back, one to the fusebox if I remember, and one to the motor (black). The power for the motor is the green wire, and I swiped the setup from the wrecked car that split the power at the trunk light, so no need to run an extra wire from the battery or anything.

Overall its pretty simple, only a few wires involved, and mounting is easy. Good luck finding one at a junkyard, that was the hardest part for me.

Hope this helps, sorry for the length.

Dave,

I have done the installation in to my car that did not originaly have one. reply if you want to know how to do it. You don't even have to run any aditional wires (if you have a manual antenna)

Re: Do any 240's have remote boot (trunk) release? 200

I don't know much about them, but I'm pretty sure either the 240 turbo and/or GL models had them. I have a DL model that doesn't have it, but it does have a spot on the inside, upper left corner of the glove box where the release button goes. AFAIK, some 240s also already have the correct electric trunk release, but just need the wiring, etc.

Good luck.

Re: Do any 240's have remote boot (trunk) release? 200

Yes, I've seen remote boot releases in 240s located in the glovebox (is there an alt. english term for that?) and between the headlight switch and the dash lights pot..

I've never done the transfer so I'm sorry I can't offer any insight on that.

My 1982 242 turbo has a switch located inside the glovebox which releases the trunk - er, sorry - boot lid. The ignition must be on for it to operate.
