Just venting about something I did 200 1983

Hi all!

Well, this weekend I finally got to check out my new 245 and begin some work on it. Wow, even though it has some cosmetic problems, I absolutely love it and admire that unique design of this Swedish brick. The first thing I did was clean the interior and bring back some life to the leather. When I finished the interior, I proceeded to clean out some body rusts (did a temporary job on them). Then I tightened the grill to it's fasteners with some nuts, washers, and screws. The next step was to cover up some bare wires and check the vital fluids (oil and tranny checked out good, but I'm still going to change them for peace of mind). Once I was done doing that, I sprayed some engine degreaser on the undercarriage and some on parts of the engine that I thought were safe to spray on (I really didn't clean the engine much with the degreaser--too unsure about doing that). Well, everything went well with those minor work until I decided to check out the tailgate wiper. I just installed a replacement blade, which did not latch on tightly with the arm. I didn't know that til I turned on the wiper and the blade fell off causing the metal tip of the wiper arm to scratch an arc on my window!!!!! I'm so mad at myself! It annoys me everytime I look at it. Yes, I know, the car came with many cosmetic glitches. But they somehow don't bother me that much, probably because this window scratch was caused by ME! Arghhh!

Anyhow, just needed to vent! And I also want to use this post to thank all who have helped me. Peter Cohen, yes, thanks for catching my math error! :P

i'll take this time to 'vent' mine also. this happened over the weekend. every saturday i typically stir around the house and around 10:00 i go out and wash the car ('88 240dl WITHOUT a blemish, ding, rust, etc.) well this weekend, starting friday, was real sh*##y!!! i just wanted some peace and solitude to myself, away from the family for a couple of hours. i have a 1200 psi sprayer that i occasionally use and decided to use it saturday. i get around the front and bend down to spray the bugs off the air dam and blue paint starts flaking off. that gets me started. asi move around to the wheels i almost spray my logo off my covers (these are less than 2 months new) and after i wash i decide to buff it with my 3/4horse buffer. i've had my own detail shop and know how to use this thing, except for this day. as i get to the rear of the drivers side, I BURN THE PAINT <>. the small strip that arches over the wheel well, between it and the rear door. to make matters worse, the touch-up paint i have have jellied and now it looks like i have a large blob of blue whitout smeared over this spot. now when i get in, i have this obvious reminder of my sh*##y day. oh well, she's still my beauty.

      Hey guys,

time to vent for my stupid mistakes,

Well one time my car got vandalized pretty bad some windows got knocked out adn i had to park in the garage. I usaalu dont park in there, but my brother was screwing around in there that night. Amd in the mroing i went to pull out and my wheel hoped on some bricks my brother left laying around and that made me tak eout my mirror. I felt like that laday in that carfax commercial(kills the car just by pulling out of the garage).

Then last month i couldnt see across the intersection but decided to go anyways, dab idea that cost me 2k and point on my lisemce.Plus insuracne is sKy high noW (AGE 17)

      Phew that feels better,

Cosmetic "glitches" caused by me (this goes for all my volvos):

-scratched quarter panels from dragging work light cords in and over them

-battered bumper from caskets, sample cases, lumber, etc.

-scratched n' dinged front bumper (many times)

    -smashed front end

-classic "drove through back wall of garage" scratches on hood

-multiple gouges on rear bumper covers from parking by feel

    -scratched roofs from mountain bikes

    -torn seat from the same

    -scraped air dams (multiple)

    -spilt coffee (constantly)

    -curb rash on rims

-splattered brake fluid on two-week-old quarter panel paint

-5 gallon jug o' water dumped in the cargo area

-tore off many trim pieces by catching on my jacket or bags or something

-plus assorted not-at-fault accidents as well

These were fixed, naturally, but most were accompanied by "oops", or perhaps something a little bit more colorful than that. Believe me, we all know the feeling...

If the scratch isn't too deep, you may be able to use glass polish to get it out.

      Ugly Duckling-

Man, I know the feeling! My fiance and I have to park our beloved 240's in the street here in Chicago. I really like to take pride in the appearance of my brick, and it's very, very maddening to come out in the morning and find small scratches on the sides or somewhere else from god knows what. It's also fun watching people try to parallel park in front or behind me even though there's no way, but they keep trying. Good thing for bumpers!! Can't wait 'till the day we can afford to get a place with a garage in this city!!

The thing you have probably discovered about the 240 and parallel parking is that for a big car it's turning radius is great. I once parallel parked my 17 foot long '84 245 in a >20 foot space between two cars. Ok I had help from my pasengers to guide me plus I used a few techniques I saw used in europe (where parking on the sidewalk is ok) - I backed in at a sharp angle - putting my rear tire on the sidewalk then made multiple short back and forth trips to get the car straight in the spot and off the sidewalk. The other cars had lots of room on either side to get out but if I were to leave before them we would have had to pick up the civic and more it to make room.
