Interesting electrical gremlin... where do I start? 700 1991

Ok, I drove up to Ft. Campbell, KY today to house hunt, it's about 6 hours North of Ft. Rucker, AL. Gustaf made the trip just fine (and turned 150,000 miles along the way) except for one tiny hiccup- I went to turn on the headlights and the windshield wipers came on. Not parking lights, just headlights. Also, when pulling the turn signal arm towards me (to flash or switch to brights) that also made them come on. Another interesting note- pulling the windshield wiper arm towards me (to get that 3 swipe one-time-only deal) caused the bulb fail light to come on. Any ideas on where to begin? It wasn't doing this yesterday or ever previously. Thanks in advance!!!

Mate I had that one in my 79' 200!

Bob has got it in one i spent ages tracing wires looking for splits or broken wires!

In the end someone on here told me about the washer motor earth i checked it and it had built up a thin layer of grey corrosion i sanded back the guard and terminal reattached the ground to the guard and covered the contact with rust converter to stop it happening again soon!

    I haven't had a hiccup scince!

    Luke.

Check the grounds for the lights and washer pump at the inner fender just behind the lights. There is a grounding lug attached to the sheet metal and the ground wires plug in with spade conectors. If the ground is poor, the components seek ground and can cause the problems you describe. Have seen it before. When operating turn signal, wipers ran a few strokes. Turn signal was grounding through the wiper relay via the washer pump wiring.

    Ground the steering column.

And in response to your next question — Beats me!
