m46 swap 700 1985

hey guys one other question, on my auto to m-46 swap project on my 760 turbo...the trans i have is from an 81 240, i heard that the shift tower will have to be swapped with one from a 700 series m46. does that mean the the shifter gets extended out from the 240 setup? or can i use what i have.

    On the 700's, the shifter ends up right above the output flange of the trans. The 240 has it farther forward. You could always cut the shifter assembly and rod and extend it by however much longer it need to be or you could just buy the cage and rod from a 700.

    If you leave it as is, your gear shift will be right in your fuse panel.

    The shifter cage cost me 30$ from a Volvo Garage.
