Winter Tires 900 1991

Input! Have been reading a lot about snow tires. Blizzak, Michelin, Nokian(NRW). Any thoughts out there. Have read reviews that the Nokian NRW can be left on year around. Better than an All Season. Any help would be appreciated. Tire size: 205/55H15.

    Re: Winter Tires 900 1991

    hi joe,

I have goodyear iceguards and they work well in snow and dry weather, I think snows have come along way recently and that they are not as bad a sacrifice as they used to be. Good luck

    Joe,

We get 400-600 inches of snow annually, would not go with anything other than Nokians, run them on all our vehicles. They wear great and the traction cannot be beat.

    Re: Winter Tires 900 1991

Discount tire direct has a comparison of snow tires on their web site. I have used Perelli, Michelin and I now have some Blizzaks on my '96 965. I kept 2 "usable" Blizzaks that came with the car and put 2 new on for last winter (195/65-15). They were good in the snow but real squishy on dry pavement. The original Michelin XM+S Alpins I had, had a much more agressive block tread than the present "Artic" Alpin and was better in real snow. Every Perelli I've had went out of round before the tread gave out. I'm presently thinking of getting a set of the Michelin Pilot Alpins and "give" away the Blizzaks.

For real snow stick with a narrower profile. The narrow tire will bite through the snow better. Maybe a 185/70-15?

I ran Nokia tires on my 940 last winter, but didn't encounter enough snow to test them. They are quiet and feel good on dry pavement. I've used Blizzaks on my 240s and they're quite good in snow. Are you sure you want fat, low-profile snow tires? I stay around 185-95 in cross section, 65/70 in profile on Volvo snows.

    Re: Winter Tires 900 1991

    Hi,

I just bought new winter tires this year after 7 sevens with the Gislaved Nord*Frost (1). I got Pirelli 210 Snowsport and have been really impressed with them. Excellent wet performance so far (no snow yet) and excellent handling/road feel with these being H-rated (Gislaveds were Q).

The other one I considered was the Michelin Pilot Alpin. (Note that there's also a Artic Alpin.) From my research, the Pilot Alpin are virtually on par with the 210. The 210 was marginally cheaper so I took them.

    George

    Joe,

I had excellent results with Nokian Hakapelita 1 tires on a 1993-945 last winter. They perform better than the previous Gislaveds on that car in every way. My size is 185-65-15. Good luck in making your choice.

      Re: Winter Tires 700 1991

I run some lesser expensive tires called "snowtrakker".

I work at a new car dealer & got the 185/60r15 set of 4

for $200.00 / they can come studded or non studded.

living in steamboat springs (colorado) they really do well

we already have 1-2 ft. of snow & my rear drive 745 has &

      will not get stuck !

        hi

Last winter, i have tested the michelin alpin -->they were not awful but after miles (and snow)i really prefer the Continental TS790 (better grip with time !)

In summer, I use michelin Pilot, very good tyres!

        good luck
