BW35 tailshaft bushing - source? 140-160

I ordered a tailshaft ("extension housing") bushing for the '74 164E. Yesterday, when trying to replace it, I noticed the new bushing is 1 5/8" OD. The OD of the original bushing is definitely smaller - I believe it is 1 1/2". Every source I find online (including Volvo-specific sites such as CVR, VP-Auto, etc) list the 1 5/8" bushing as a fit for the BW35, BW55, AW70/71, and so on. The description on some does mention "US Spec". So it looks like I have a non-US spec tailshaft housing. Any ideas where to find the right one?

The FP-12 bushing in that link is the one I have, which doesn't fit (too big). In the notes, it reads "U.S. ASSEMBLY-1-5/8["] O.D." Somehow, it appears my transmission is different - maybe because the car is an earlier 1974 build?

That's my fault. Only used the catalog, didn'got t see the o.d. Maybe another bw35 in another car, fiat, jag, etc, might be 1.5 and not 1.625

Are you after the bushing or the oil seal? What is the Volvo part number for the part number you are seeking. There are many other makes that used the BW35, including Triumph and Jaguar. Parts may be the same as on the BW65.

I'm not sure how to look up the Volvo part number. It was the bushing I was after; The new seal did fit. I had to put everything back together using the existing bushing. Radial play was not bad as assessed by hand (no actual measure). However, working on similar transmission tailshaft bushings in the past (BW55 and AW71), there was no detectable radial play with a new busing installed.

I'll search using the makes you mentioned and see if I can come up with a different (correct) part.

Other British makes that used the BW35 are Sunbeam and Rover (I have a 1969 Rover 3500 transmission--for sale) and I recall owning a late 1960's or early '70's Toyota coupe that had a copy of a BW35. - Dave
