Catalytic Converter Question 200

1993 Volvo 240 - Floating flange header pipe with donut seal - may need to replace CAT and the pipe extension behind it.
Do I need to get a Volvo unit or will aftermarket work (Magnaflow). Has 02 sensor at front of converter.
IPD sells one but is with fixed flange so they say I would need to replace the header pipe as well. But I see there are some on eBay with a floating flange available saying it is suitable for a 93 240 - and at reasonable prices.
Will I need to replace the wire 02 or is it universal fit.

Thanks from those that have done this and can offer any recommendations - do's and don'ts.

Catalytic Converter Question 200

I can't comment on brands, but in cars with no downstream O2 sensor (your LH 2.4 car, for instance( don't care what's behind the sensor, so long as it's not plugged up. I don't see why any cat that fits would cause an issue.

As far as I know, O2 sensor threads are universal. Some systems are picky about the actual sensor, and I don't know if 2.4 is or not. I've always had trouble getting them out after they've been in a while, even with the proper socket. Best wishes in getting your exhaust sorted--it's not a job I consider fun, but satisfying when your car sounds and runs good.

For what it's worth, my '95 940 N/A (also LH2.4) has an aftermarket turbo cat--no issues.

Catalytic Converter Question 200

I have a non-EGR 1993 240 wagon. I replaced the catalytic converter in 2015 with a unit I found on FCP's website. My receipt says it's a DEC VO3522. It fit perfectly with the factory header.

This was the second cat I tried. The first from FCP was a different brand and did not work b/c of the floating flange on the header pipe (their website said it was compatible!).

I see the Magnaflow unit on FCP's website and it's not cheap.

I recently thought I would need to replace the cat on a 2002 V70 (again, not cheap). I looked for other solutions and found Cataclean. I followed the instructions exactly as on the bottle. The CEL vanished within 30 miles and has not returned after 1k miles. I call that a success (at least for now!).
