Once in awhile I've been putting stopleak in my 240 wagon to help seal a slight weeping at the water pump. As months went by the heat output has grown less, and now just blows air! Probably related, right? What can I do to get some heat back? Thanks, Chris

    Use all other suggestions you have here.

    Use of stop leak for an enduring period can cause clogs.

    So get onto your dyin' feet and dissemble the cooling system. As you must remove all that is the center of 240, inspect it for clogs.

    The stop leak material, if you have used it for an extended period will settle at the lowest level, of the heater core. Or, a clog may be at the heater core valve interior assembly if you cannot. As Mr. Stevens says.

    Drain and flush. Use a new HEPU or as Mr. Arty B. suggests on his site at:

      Think heater control valve. It's to the right of the gas pedal tucked in against the firewall behind the blower housing. The early ones had a thermal probe and an adjustable saddle screw, but I don't think the later ones did. You can sometimes get a bit more life out of them with cable adjustment.

      Check your coolant level and top it up if need be.

      It sounds counterintuitive but when the level slowly falls, at a certain point the engine is still cooling but you won't get any interior heat.

      What does your temperature gauge say? Sounds like a bad thermostat. Stuck open.

      Do you check your antifreeze level often? How much is it leaking? Using a lot of stop leak can clog your heater core.

        I'd look into how hot (or not) the hoses to the heater are. Should be HOT going in -- not as hot coming out. I'd put my money on a clogged heater core. Even with a wide open thermostat an engine will make some heat. - Dave
