164 distributor parts source 140-160

Does anyone have a good source for 1971 164 points, condenser, rotor? I can’t get stuff locally anymore.

IPD has points and rotors available for your 164 B30E. Lots of stuff like that also available through eBay sellers as others note.

If you're going to own something as old as a 164 then you need to hone your parts searching skills. Parts lookups and verification for old Volvo's can be difficult and you can't trust all the sources to have the correct fitments or even any fitments. If you can pull a number off the part that will sometimes help get you started. Realize that many parts will also have superceding part numbers. Parts lookups by year, model and engine generally don't go back earlier than the 240 series on the genuine Volvo sites and most aftermarket sites -IPD being one of the more notable exceptions. The most reliable place online for fitments and determining your p/n's, also a source for parts in Europe, is Skandix. That will often give you p/n's you can't find elsewhere and a much more accurate guide to fitments. Then you can Google search using the Volvo p/n. That then usually leads you to Bosch p/n's so you can also go searching by that. EBay is Google indexed so most stuff will soon turn up. Every time you do it your searching skills will get better for the next time.

      If the OP's car is a 1971 it won't be a 164E.

      Cap 241669
      Rotor 240305
      Points 241652

      Check these before buying.

The '71 US market E cars had a high compression ratio (10:1) and were rated at 175hp. I can attest--they had every bit of that power. - Dave

1 of the confusing parts of identifying the actual year model is that cars manufactured after a certain part of year, usually starting around August, are considered the next year's model. So in your example of an October of 1971 164, it would be considered a 1972 which would have been fuel injected for the US market, where a pre-August 1971 164 would have carburetors.

A VIN would help to determine what parts are needed.

I'm pretty sure I have the cap, rotor, points, condenser and wire set in NOS Bosch.

New Bosch spark plugs are available, but they look different and I'm pretty sure they are now made in a different country.

I highly recommend dealing with Planetman (Hi Performance) for the parts you're asking about. He'll make sure he gets you the exact parts you need.

    Try Mike Dudek at https://www.irollmotors.com/home.htm
Beware that parts aren't as reliable as they used to be. Modern condensers can be unreliable so don't change it unless necessary.

    Hi ?

Goto Ebay and/or Search engines and enter
    "Volvo (part nr)"
or "Volvo 164 ignition parts" , etc.
They are good at finding part numbers and catalog parts.

    Good luck, Bill
