This sounds like the same issue someone had in https://turbobricks.com/index.php?threads/740-hood-latch-problems.84716/, i.e:

- When I close the hood, both the center and the left latches lock. The right one does not.
- I can push down on the top of the hood by the right latch as hard as I can but no luck
- The right side of the hood seem to be a bit higher than the left when closed; I attribute that to the spring in the latch since I can push it down and when I release it comes back up.
- Using an unscientific approach of inserting my finger down the latch hole, it feels it takes as much pressure to move the tab the hood release pulls on the left side as the right site. i.e. no dragging of any sorts.
- I tried backing out the pin on the hood (the one with the spring on it) in hope it would extend enough to trigger the tab mentioned above. It maybe because I was not brave enough but so far no luck.

What else can I try?

The brackets for the hood latch on either side adjust up and down.
Maybe they're too low? You can first scribe a mark where they are,
Loosen the hex head bolts and try raising a little, re-tighten.
See if that does it.

As B.B. says! Hoof alignment can be a cause.

If the hood latch and receiver align, maybe try some lubricant to free that latch? With latch receiver stuck so that the spring and assembly do not move freely, like on Volvo 240 hood hinges, start with a light lube, that does not attack paint, and work the assemblies at the hood and in the cross member.

I forgot how the bits operate together on your 700. Sorry.

Lube all them latches and hinges! More often if your Volvo resides outdoors!

I clean the hinge / latch bits and use spray or tub white lithium grease. Some will use a clear grease. A recurring service item!
