Hydraulic brake switch upgrade. 444-544

If you search the archives of this and other Euro car sites looking information about our brake switches, there is universal agreement that the switches available today are totally unreliable. Personally, I have replaced them after anywhere from a few days to a year.
Driving as I do in heavy traffic, when the brake lights quit it can mean a disaster, so after the last replacement, I installed a little red LED inside, wired to the open contact of the switch. When the brake lights come on, it lights up. It worked well but I noticed that it required a lot of pedal pressure to make the switch operate.
One of the British sites led me to the US distributor of a Universal Low Pressure Brake Switch at a price comparable to the regular item. I fitted one today and am delighted to report that even slight pedal pressure operates the lights!
Of course, like everything, it is made in China, and may not last any longer, but at least following vehicles will know I am slowing down.
I got mine on E bay with the "Pigtail Adaptor" from Firststone Auto Parts.

SWEM has an electronic switch upgrade. Highly recommended.

LH;

I had log-on issues which kept me off Brickboard for a while...but now that I'm back...

...in the Low Pressure Switch Peebee writes of, I expect it simply has a weaker return spring providing counter force for the contact plate, and this does not address the slow contact closure and resulting arcing (in-fact, I expect it might make the arcing worse...).

Converting over to a Pedal Position Sensing Brake Light Sw on the other hand suffers no such inherent weakness, plus as you are aware, it activates Brake Lights as soon as Pedal is moved from the rest position, so it is a measurable decrease in the time it takes for Brake Lights to come on...a definite safety upgrade!

Thanks for Reference!

I was able to observe the switch action instantly, as I have an "idiot light" in the dark, over the trans. I found that there was the a gradual increase in the amount of pedal pressure required over several weeks.
Accordingly, I installed one of your Swem 544 kits. I found it to very well engineered and certainly it works as advertised.
