M40 friction drive spring 120-130

Haynes talks about a friction drive spring that sits in the rear bearing housing of the m40 with the speedometer drive gear, but there was no such thing in there when I took mine apart. I can't find a listing for one anywhere online. I'm scratching my head on this one. Do I even need it? Thanks in advance.
