heater control bulbs unavailable 900 1995

Hello all,

I found an excellent video showing how to get to the heater control bulbs in the centre console and i proceeded to remove the radio, cigarette lighter and various plastic boxes to get to them.

Having finally got to my destination I cannot seem to find a supplier for these strange little bulbs that are attached to a specific light blue socket. Even ipd could not help. I am planning to spend half the day travelling to my excellent used parts supplier about an hour away and to give the local Canadian Tire a try as well.

Anybody found a fairly reliable supplier for these bulbs? I only need two to do the job.

Or alternatively have you found a way to modify something to do the job.

Bob, deep into the dashboard heart of darkness in a 95 Volvo 940.

PC lamps 900 1995

Hi Bob,

It looks like the heater control lamp is Volvo 3537346 NLA
Is that a twist-in PC socket lamp the same as the warning lamps in the instrument cluster?
The Warning lamps are PC37:
That's the socket and the T 1-1/2 wedge lamp

https://www.cecindustries.com/products/miniature /mindetails.php?SentPartNum=PC37

https://www.ebay.com/itm/266158798934

The lamps can be pulled out of the old socket and replaced:
https://www.cecindustries.com/products/miniatures/combinations.php?BASE=Wedge%20%28T-1%203/4%29&BULB=T-1%203/4
The lamp you want is # 2721 (Use only 14 volt lamps)

You can find CEC and EICO lamps at Ebay once you have the part number.
Watch out for some wildly overpriced options and for some vendors trying to sell you 12 volt lamps which are not suited for 14 volt cars.

You can order CEC lamps from CP Illumination (Chicago area) 847-722-7138
Talk to Carlos. He's CEC's retail distributor.

Bill

PC lamp part numbers 900 1995

Hello Bill,

The local Volvo wrecking yard for Vancouver Island, Chapman Motors, came through with the required bulbs and I installed them and they are lighting up.

There are two bases, a black one and a white one.

The black base is part number 30739357.

The white base is part number 30739356.

Both fitted okay but I think I would buy the white base in preference because it slipped in a little easier. But either would work in a pinch.

Bob

Now I have to get busy reassembling everything!

Last time I needed one of those rare heater control bulbs Chapman also came through. We're so lucky. Don't forget they have the three locations for us here and each shop will have their own collection of miscellaneous small bulbs, as often do Volvo dealer shops elsewhere, you just need to take in the old bulb.

Those Volvo p/n's you listed are for the blue bulbs used in the later FWD models. If they fit, great. The tinted lens coating may make them slightly dimmer, which may or may not be noticeable as the heater control panel is already a bit dim.

The clear bulb used in our 940s and late 740s heater control panels is in the Volvo Dealer Parts listings as p/n 353746 and is NLA from Volvo (as mentioned elsewhere here), also listed as discontinued everywhere I could find online looking just now.

I think I may have found an identical 1/4 turn, round based clear bulb available from Toyota as their p/n 84999-10710 (aka. 8499910710). It's listed as 14V .56W and is used in 1997- Lexus for the gear selector. It's still available from Toyota and online. A simlar green capped bulb is used in the Corolla and RAV4 heater control panels.

Interestingly, the Volvo 700/900 Pocket Data Booklet (1991-1997 700/850/900, it can be found online) has a semi-useful page of all the bulbs used, their wattages, socket code and standard bulb number (if there is a common equivalent), but interestingly not the Volvo p/n. In the pictures, bulb #1 appears to be a 1/4 turn bulb base, but in the tables it's the only bulb not described -go figure. There's another 1/4 turn small bulb with a black square base and metals tangs used on top of the ambient temp gauge which is still available from Volvo and aftermarket, but as it's a larger bulb and doesn't fit the heater control panel.

Dave -still with 940's, prev 740/240/140/120 You'd think I'd have learned by now

Hi Bob,

Glad you found your lamps.
CEC says that the color of the base varies, so the color is not important.

Is that the same bulb as the warning lamps?

I wonder if your wrecking yard has a 940 driver seat belt?
I need one here and there's no donor cars now.

Bill
