Any alloy wheels out there? 140-160 1968

Wondering if there are any alloy wheels besides Virgos that will work with the offset for a 1968 140 ?

I am not familiar with the 140 series cars nor the offerings from after market. However, if Virgos fit the car I believe it is safe to assume that any of the alloy wheels from the 740/940 series will as well.

The Hydras are 16" and are not as common as the other Volvo issued alloy wheels so they would provide a different look without having to leave the family.

The 740/940 wheels are only a half inch difference in offset to Virgos or other 240/260 wheels. I had Hydras on my '80 245 for a short time - they worked fine but I didn't care for the way they looked--like the car was wearing "spats". I prefer wheels on the 240 that have intricate detail. To that end I now have the wheels that came on the '78 264 "Golden Anniversary" option on my '93 Oldsmobile V8 powered 245 and as spares, a set of wheels IPD sold many years ago (I bought them used and don't recall what they were called--maybe Starburst?). They have a 1980's Ferrari-Fiat look to them. - Dave

Any alloy wheels out there? Bricklboard Classifieds (as a search start) 140-160 1968

I'm sure folks will see your post here in the BrickBoard RWD forum and reply.

Else, a few idea-rs that can help you ...

Click ClassAds, the BrickBoard Classified Adverts. as a start to your search.

It may help that you create a free account here on the BrickBoard. Yet you can use them as an anonymous user I think to reply tp the advert.

Use your browser web page search (press Ctrl + F keys) and use 'wheel' as a search. More than likely these wheels won't be local; to you and you have to ship these freight.

The rear wheel drive (RWD) offset is 20 or 40 mm either plus? or minus? from the wheel center line. Wheels on all RWD models up to 1995 RWD (940) Volvo will fit. Though do your research to confirm.

craigslist.org can be a good resource. You can use Google / Bing and force a search to a internet domain as as you enter it in the web search page:
volvo wheels site:craigslist.org

The TurboBricks (turbobricks.com) website has a classifieds section. You must have an account there to access it.

As Volvo wheels are an ongoing discussion, there is a sticky post that lists an abundance of Volvo wheels for all models. (Copy and paste URL into a new browser tab or window):

http://forums.turbobricks.com/showthread.php?t=72501

SwedeSpeed has a Volvo wheel and tire forum:
https://www.swedespeed.com/forums/the-wheel-and-tire-forum.21/

These and other RWD-Volvo-centric classifieds usually allow you to post what you want.

Forums like your BrickBoard here though allows others to tell you their experience with wheel models of interest. Issues like corrosion, curb rash, dents, cracks, and more are a feature of use and some wheel models. Use a wheel service for wheel restoration.

Bill (last name?) has his site here that lists many resources, if a little dated:
http://www.nuceng.ca/bill/volvo/volvohome.htm

The Oz Volvo Archive here (URL):
https://ozvolvo.org/archive/

Contains this and other publications fort primarily RWD Volvo. This Volvo Accessory bulletin may help you. Use browser search. Save the PDF to your hard drive.
alloy_wheels.pdf

The Volvo Club of America sites may have wheels for sale in their classifieds. Also iPd has classifieds for used items.

FleaBay may have some wheels.

You personal style and pocketbook decide, of course!

I'll stick with steelie wheels forever. Yet would like the 15" or 16" 700 / 940 steelies. Some early 960 wheels, and certainly 1996 or 1997 and later won't fit may not fit as they have the FWD offset.

Hope that helps for your Egg Nog Holidays!

If you're willing to spend the money, there are at least 4 different manufacturers making new alloy wheels to fit your 140.

Panasport, Minilite and VTO all make similar styles of 8 spoked alloy wheels and we've sold and installed all 3.

Reproductions of the optional alloy wheel Volvo used to sell are also available, but so far, we haven't sold a set of those yet.
