Low beams wont turn on 200 1989

Hello
So when i turn headlight switch to parking lights, everything works, dash lights and parking lights work, high beams work.
Problem is when i turn switch one more notch to headlight position, everything turns off, dash lights and parking lights, high beams still work.

Also interior dome lights do not work (center and hatch), new bulbs still not working.

Relay?
Deeper electrical issues?

    When you move the headlight switch to the first position the high beams light up or they will flash when you pull the steering column stalk? I am assuming the stalk "flash" function.

    If I remember correctly there are two relays for the headlights on the later 240's? The low beam relay is under the dash mounted to the firewall around/above the brake and accelerator pedals. The high beam relay is along the inner driver's fender after the battery.

    Again, I am making an educated guess using old memory data.

      1st position - only parking lights.

      High beams only when I pull stalk.

      I'll check out the relays.

        I don't remember having any trouble with any of the headlight relays. I have had a bit of experience with troublesome fuel injection, radio suppression (7/9 cars), and overdrive relays.

        Most of problem relays have been put back in service after reflowing the solder joints on the board. Removing the cover and using a magnifying glass to examine the circuit board many times will reveal a cracked joint. Even if it doesn't I reflow them anyway.

      will do 1st thing in the morning.

      Ill check all fuses but I dont see a particular fuse for HEADLAMPS though.

        Hi __,

        I don't have the 1989 wiring diagram.
        The late model 240 has some fuses by the battery.
        I 'm surprised that I don't see the usual headlight fuses in the 1985.
        There may be a fusible link, you'll find out from one of the 240 guru's
        soon.
        Besides the lamp switch, there's a step relay and a bulb out sensor that need
        checking.

        If you intend to do electrical troubleshooting, get your hands on the
        Volvo wiring diagram & fault tracing book for your model year.
        Nothing else is remotely close!
        Someone should be able to give you the Volvo part #.

        These books were around $25-35 new from Volvo, and worth every penny.

        You might find one at Ebay or Abebooks, or used book sites.
        If you're lucky you might find it online after lots of searching with uncooperative search engines.
        They'll send you first to their proxy sites where they'll offer to sell it to you.

          I'll do some basic troubleshooting, like replace relays but leave anything higher up to local pros.

          But I'll look into getting that book.

            Seems like most here have gone on from 240s to the 7/9 cars and memories fade fast. Here's the scoop, in this recent post. Pay close attention to the information for the '90 240 as it is the same as for the '89. Not the relay, usually, but the relay socket is what you need to fix.
