Power window mechanism and connectors 700

Did the power window mechanism -- brackets, motor -- change throughout the 700 run and then to the 900, including the 960? Or is it completely interchangeable?

When I was replacing the mechanism for my 1994 940 I noticed that parts from 700 and 900 series up year 1994 remain all same ie. brackets, motor and connector. Mechanism from 1995 onwards uses different motor ie. has more plastic parts with different connector. But the mounting dimensions remains the same so I used this motor instead and spliced the old connector in (still a 2 wire motor)

That's the kind of info I needed. My driver's window mechanism has enough freeplay it will not close shut level without help (I guess one of the hones where it pivots is worn out or something), and I saw a pre 95 940 and a 96 960 in the yard. I know now which one to grab the linkage from.

take the motor apart for inspection. mine had an issue where the magnets broke loose front he case resulting in a slow motor. This did not stop the motor but it was basically figthing itself with the armature stuck tot he magents and dragging
The fix was to clean all the parts and epoxy the magnets back to the motor case.

I pulled the harness and all the motors and electric mirrors out of a 88 740 so I have some parts onhand. Volvos were simple and didn't have a lot of unnecessary electrical gadgetry in early years.. I think this was a start to the slippery slope of excess unnecessary wiring complication.

I have no experience with the 960 cars.

I have changed out the mechanisms on the 740's. I looked for a post I made years ago concerning what I learned but the older posts are no longer available.

There was a change in the mechanisms at some point. My memory is foggy on what I found, but I believe it was the attachment points. I think there are three studs on the mechanisms that are used to attach them to the inner panel of the door.

Something about those changed at some point but it was not a big deal. It might have been that the one of the studs was in a different location but the door already had a hole where it was needed to accommodate the different stud position.

I'm sorry I can't be more help, but thought I would respond since the post wasn't getting any action up to this point.
