Spicer rear end lubricant change 444-544

Guys, I'm changing fluids in my PV and next is the Spicer rear end. Of course there's a fill plug but no drain plug like on the M40 tranny. Is the best (and only way) to get the old stuff out with any residual crud in the bottom, to loosen bolts at the bottom? I lean more toward the drain-out method of fluids, rather than suction out with a gun-tube.
If you loosen those bolts, does that destroy the gasket causing future leaks, and requiring a new gasket and complete removal of the cover?

Unfortunately, most of the Volvo rear ends with drum rear brakes didn't come with a drain plug.

So the only way to properly drain the diff oil is to remove the cover and you should be prepared to change the diff cover gasket.

FYI, the diff cover gasket is the same for all the Volvos with a Dana/Spicer rear end and the same as Jeeps with a Dana 23,25,27 or 30 rear ends.

Eric, would it be good to use some Blue Hylomar on either side of the gasket when re-installing?

We use Permatex "The Right Stuff".

Never used blue Hylomar, but it does appear to be resistant to gear oil.

Thanks Eric, that's what I figured would have to happen.
