Volvo Airbox in 544 444-544

I've got an airbox from a later model Volvo that uses SU HS6 carbs but since the engine bay is narrow, I can't fit the airbox in the normal way with the pipe going forward. I've reversed it and ran the air pipe out the back of the box down to the front of the grill. Am I nuts?
