Pics of an OE hitch on 93 240 wagon? 200 1993

I just picked up a Volvo OE hitch for my 93 240 wagon. I'm looking for some pics of a completed installation so I can see how people have dealt with the beauty shield below the bumper. After removing it for the installation, can it be put back with some cutouts, or does it need to be permanently removed? I'd like to keep it installed.

Any pics are welcome.

Thanks!

I cut an inverted U where the square tube is located. I had to weld an extension to the two holes safety plate. My tie chains were not long enough.

Thanks Art. That's the first I've seen of Volvo instructions showing cutouts and templates. That's terrific and gives me a starting point since the frames are probably the same, and the relative cutouts are probably similar. It may vary a bit since the shields are different. I wonder if there's an updated version of that Volvo install booklet.

    Thanks again!

I hesitate to contribute here, because I don't know how a 93 wagon might differ from my 89 or from some of the sedans I've added hitches to.

Here are some pics I've saved from Brickboard member rhaire, who helped me procure my first Volvo hitch.

Also, if you like 20MB PDFs you can see how this pattern was derived from Volvo's instructions. http://cleanflametrap.com/240TowHitchInstallation.pdf

I'm not that concerned with what the SUV or Pickup driver has to look at while tailgating me.

Thanks for the quick replies. That's the first I've seen the Volvo OE instructions - much appreciated. Notice that it says to remove the shield and store it until the hitch is removed. I don't really want to do that as I think it will be quite ugly. And I've trimmed bumpers on other vehicles. I'm just wondering if anyone has any pics of what it looks like before I tackle that.

    Thanks again!

You can certainly go the cutout route. Carefully measure the minimum opening needed to slip over the receiver and chain eyes. An angle grinder cut-off wheel can make a quick and tidy job of starting the opening, finishing the corners with a hacksaw blade in a holder, jigsaw or recip saw. Remember the old rule of measure twice, cut once. If you really want to minimize the cutout then do it first in cardboard. Some prefer to just simply leave the panel off with the idea of being able to put it back on later.
