AW70 vs AW71 Rear housing 700

Besides the fact one has the speedo sending unit in older 240s, what is the difference in the rear housings for both transmissions?

No one has picked this up yet - so I'll take a stab at answering your query, without having either of these trannies in front to me. I would say - there is no difference in the rear housings. The difference between the two lies in the main body of the AW-70 where there are a couple of fluid chambers with a disc looking "piston" in each. Those "pistons" are there to cushion the shifts -- made more firm with the deletion of them in the AW-71. I do not know if there are more-or different-clutches. -- Dave

At a later time the rear housing incorporated a bearing and no longer use the bushing.

Did that make it incompatible with the old output shaft?
And, what was gained by going to the bearing? Longer replacement intervals?

As the bushing wears it causes the rear seal to leak. The bearing solved that problem. - Dave
