Riveted parking brake shoes? Had a bonded one come loose!

Hello,
I had a parking brake shoe come unglued once and it got stuck between the drum and the metal part of the shoe and stopped the rear wheeels dead. Luckily, it was in a parking lot and not on the expressway or it could have meant a big crash.

Anyway, I am looking for riveted parking brake shoes for that reason. I have searched amazon, ebay, FCP, IPD TB, and some other automotive sites. I need new parking brake shoes for my 1992 245 wagon and I figured that I would search for riveted instead of bonded but so far, no luck. Has anyone seen riveted parking brake shoes for sale? Thanks!

Pittroj

If you cannot find riveted shoes, why not rivet them yourself.

WHAT!!!

Maybe you can fine someone who rivets shoes for old cars and get them to rivet your glued shoes. Maybe even a merchandising opportunity for the guy.

If I really wanted to. I would buy some shoe rivets from a restoration parts vendor and figure how to rivet the glued shoes that I could get. Four rivets might do the job.

Perhaps you can find some rivets that are countersunk instead of shouldered like most are, making the job easier

Good Luck

I've never seen rivets used in the parking brake. However, I've seen them come loose like yours and jam up, though never in a serious way, just scary noisy.

Used some 2-part epoxy to put them back until replacements found their way to my shelf. 20 years ago. Never had to use the new ones.

How old were yours?
