Just bought a B16 and wondering about fuses 444-544 1960

I have my ‘62 with a B18 but I just bought a 1960 544 “A” model with B16B that has been parked in a barn since 1977. Very original, very mouse-eaten headliner (and a few other things), but very original with 89000 miles. Some things are in amazingly good shape because it was out of sun and weather on a concrete floor, other things still aged dramatically. Heater hoses just crumbled in my hands. Distributor and points look new, like just switched off a few days ago - Weird.
But my main question now is, being 6V the electrical system is different from what I’m familiar with.
I put in a new battery and 75% of lights and all the accessories came right to life after 44 years!
I see the main fuse box there above heater on the firewall, but that only holds 6 fuses.
Owners manual says it has 10 fuses, and online shows a smaller 4x fuse box, but I can’t figure out where it is located in my car!

Phil;

The 6V 544s have a 6 fuse FuseBlock (Ref: https://www.sw-em.com/Wiring_Diagrams_and_Related.htm#544_(6V)_Wiring_Diagram_Mark-up ) ...the 12V 544s had a 4 fuse FB (Ref: https://www.sw-em.com/Wiring_Diagrams_and_Related.htm#544/210_(12V)_Wiring_Diagram ) ...the "Owners manual says it has 10 fuses" is news to me, and doesn't sound right...can you give link or post a pic of reference.

Cheers

Tried to upload image but not sure if worked...
Instruction Book page 55 shows a drawing of fuse box no. 1 holding 6 fuses and fuse box no. 2 holding 4 8amp fuses and it states “fuse-box no. 2 on left wheel housing” but I just don’t see it.

Page 65 of owners manual says under “Electrical System” - “Fuses - 8 / 8” and next line : “25 / 2”
Which I read as 8 x 8amp + 2 x 25amp.

I need to study that wiring diagram you sent - I was looking for one online - thanks much!

Phil;

One might be indeed be tempted to interpret that text as you have, but it is not consistent with what I know from the (unmistakable) Wiring Diagrams, so unless I can see a WD with a fuse compliment other than 6V/6 12V/4, I would still have to question that text and source.

I don't have that Owners Manual, so cannot check it (but would love to see it), and upload was not successful...please try again to post a pic or scan of the page (and WD if in there)...

Cheers

It took me a while to find a Volvo electrical green book for a B16 544 in our collection.

The early versions of the B16 544 up to chassis number 269999 did have 2 fuse boxes.

A fuse box with 6 fuses, 2-short 25A and 4-long 8A, is mounted in the normal spot on the firewall under the hood and a fuse box with 4-long 8A fuses on the left inner fender.

The fuse box with 4 fuses on the inner fender is not the same 1 used on the 12v cars as those are set up for 1-short 25A fuse and 3-long 8A fuses.

The fuse box on the inner fender is for both headlights with a fuse for each left and right low beam and high beam.

This car is #273611, so it is after the switch-over, but the manual the owner got must have been the edition still referring to the earlier 2 fuse-box arrangement - that I can believe!
From what I can piece together the car was purchased in 1960 on the European Delivery Plan, then shipped back to the U.S. The original owner lived in CA, OH, MI, then IL by ‘77 when he stored the car away.
It has the dual horns (so that’s the relay on inner left fender).
Plus it has the “towing package” with hitch and wiring connection in trunk for trailer lights.
It has a couple “aftermarket” items: there is an amp meter in the dash where the radio should be, then a radio of some type under the dash. The radio doesn’t look useable but amp meter looks like a nice addition!
Knowing there was a cut-off and a switch to this different wiring harness makes a lot more sense to me now - I was confused by looking at the manual and but now it makes sense.

...now I’m just trying to submit a photo...
hopefully this is image of the wiring there on left inner wheel area just for what it’s worth...

Thanks Eric once again for clarification!

...and while looking closer at the 6V544 WD, I do see the FuseBlock for Headlights! See: https://www.sw-em.com/Wiring_Diagrams_and_Related.htm#544_(6V)_Wiring_Diagram_Mark-up

Cheers
