A/C Delete Bracket - Usefull ? 200

Have a 93 - 240, B230. A/C is non functional and I don't plan to fix it - have heard it'll still be a yearly headache.

IPD sells a A/C delete bracket (169$) to remove the compressor pulley and drag from the belt drive.

Is this worthwhile? Or just wait till it causes a problem.

Thanks

A/C Delete Bracket - Usefull ? 200

Hi,

I've deleted the AC from numerous 240's.

After removing the compressor, I add small sections of 1/4" pipe spacers to move the ps pump into alignment with the crank pulley. Along with a longer 5/16" bolt, it amounts to a dollar or two at the hardware store plus a new belt.

Let me know if you'd like me to measure the spacer lengths.

regards, Peter

Yes - send the spacer lengths 200

Yes please - send me the specs. Will give it a try.

Did you use the rubber or poly bushings ?

Hi Mike,

Some people use stacks of washers as spacers. I buy a 1/4" pipe nipple from the plumbing aisle and cut it to length.

The outer groove on the compressor pulley lines up with the crank pulley, so your ps pump pulley needs to move forward to that position, about 17 mm.

Looking at the photo there are 3 spacers. Both the one on the far left and the one on the far right are 17 mm. The shorter one between the bracket arms is whatever will fit snugly in there. It depends on the type and spacing of the bushings. If you're replacing bushings, measure after they're replaced.

There is one more spacer not shown that is used to keep the adjuster unit in line with the pump. I think it's around 12 mm, but it's not that critical. whatever looks good.

You'll need a 5" long 5/16" or 8 mm bolt and nut, and a bit longer bolt at the adjuster hold down.

The belt I've been using is D&D power drive 15417

That should get you started, but there might be some fine tuning if it's not where you want it, and I can't say if there's any advantage to using poly bushings. Mine have been fine with rubber.

A/C Disable ? 200

Thanks. Will give it a try.

In your opinion trying to maintain the A/C is just a pain in these vehicles?

Better to put it to sleep?

Hi Mike,

I'm sure someone here can help you resuscitate your AC, but I have nothing to offer.

I have no use for AC, and discard it because it's dead weight and clutters up the engine bay.

Peter

Any 28 yr old vehicle ac is going to need work. O-rings dont last forever but if you dont need AC where you live then good for you!!
