I have green topped injectors,,I also have a set of yellow topped injectors off a 240?I wonder if they deliver the same amount of fuel??

Stick with the Volvo injectors as Spook noted. I'm no expert on this, but fuel injector flow needs to be matched to the horsepower the engine is designed to produce and the type of aspiration. Basically there's only so much energy you can get out of a cc of gas and that will limit the horsepower you can produce at the maximum injector flow rate while also wanting to achieve some kind of fuel efficiency. I think Randy is quite right that an engine will end up running lean if the injectors can't keep up with the fuel mix (fuel to air ratio) that the ECU is attemting to achieve for a given rpm and sensed engine conditions. I'm guessing the ECU may throw a Check Engine trouble code if the programmed rich/lean condition can't be achieved with the injectors being pulsed as hard as it can.

People may find it interesting to poke around on this high performance injector website, starting with their flow calculator Fuel Injector Clinic -Flow Calculator. I haven't the time to look up the needed data inputs for you, but most of the information you need on the later RWD B230F/FD and B230FT engines can be found in the Volvo 700/850/900 Pocket Data Manual which Spook referenced (a partial copy of that can currently be found here https://www.myvolvolibrary.info/Tech_files2_ficheiros/700_900_DataPocket.pdf)

        Dear Blindboy,

Hope you're well. Carbon inside the tail pipe suggests an over-rich fuel/air mixture. That can coat the catalytic converter ("cat") with carbon, and "kill" the "cat". Replacing a failed "cat" is not a cheap date.

That said, yellow-top injectors are the correct ones for a non-turbo-charged engine. However, if an injector malfunctions - and sprays too much fuel - the excess fuel: (a) is expelled with the exhaust, and burns outside of the cylinder; (b) contaminates the oil supply.

Pull the oil dipstick and sniff the oil at the dipstick's cross-hatched bottom section. It you smell gasoline there, that suggests an injector has failed. Excess fuel has fouled the oil supply. Replace the injectors and change the gasoline-contaminated oil and filter.

        Hope this helps.

        Yours faithfully,

        Spook

You also have to consider it your use injector have a good spray pattern... Atomization of a good spray pattern to. burn the gasoline efficient. Liquid gasoline does not burn, only the vapors so this is why spray patterns are important to assist in vaporizing the gasoline.

    Dear Blindboy,

Hope you're well and stay so. The yellow-top injectors are for non-turbo engines, e.g., B230F/FD and deliver 185 cc / minute. The green-top injectors are for turbo-equipped engines, e.g., B230FT/FK/GK and deliver 300 cc / minute.

    The yellow-top injectors may bear Volvo # 3517572 or Bosch # 0 280 150 762
    The green-top injectors may bear Volvo # 3517283 or Bosch # 0208 150 804.

With that much difference in fuel delivery I would be hesitant to make that swap. Sounds like an opportunity for that engine to run lean and that is a very bad thing.
