Speedometer needle bouncing

I have a 1993 Volvo 940 non-turbo. The speedometer needle occasionally bounced erratically. Could this be a malfunctioning speed sensor? Any advise will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

I had the same thing happen on mine. I tested the sensor located in the differential and it was fine. Turns out, the electronics in the speedometer head were going bad. I can walk you through the solution, but it is difficult and time consuming, but for me, very much worth the effort.

you need to replace the wire from the axle pickup to where its secured to chassis,Use new connectors,,the
bouncing is the connection coming loose..
