Torque rod removal 90 245 200

I am stuck trying to replace my torque rods and I have tried to jack car up and support it by jack stands under the axle and also on the jack points with the axle hanging down with only a little support under the diff with the jack. I cannot seem to get the bolts to budge, I have tried an impact(w/ swivel), ratchet and closed wrenches. nothing budges. I have soaked in PB blaster but Car has no rust as its a southern car and every other suspension or bolt I have removed from front and rear has come off as expected. Every resource I read just says to remove the bolts but I feel I am missing something? Does anyone have any good steps and exact tools and approach for getting these bolts out?

Thanks

Suspension bolts like that will be on with a Loctite type of threadlocker (caliper mounting bolts are another place Volvo uses threadlocker). Extra force is needed to crack the bond plus any corrosion helping it, but as in your case that’s sometimes difficult to achieve without risking breaking the bolt or a tool. It’s a thermoplastic compound and as the name implies can be softened with heat. You don’t need cherry red, you just need to get it up over about 500 degF with a torch. The hotter the torch, the faster you can work to keep the heat localized. A good heat gun on high can also work if you don’t have access to a torch. Unless you're going to be replacing them anyway, you don’t want to get too carried away and risk melting rubber bushings or changing the temper of bolts and mountings. With the bolt still warm use the longest stout breaker bar you can find with a cheater pipe on the handle if needed. You can try your impact wrench again, but I think brute force may be better to keep the softened locker moving until it finally tears.

Agreed. The bond that the Locktite has can be harder to break than you'd imagine. I found this out when I tried to remove the rusted away dust shields on the front brakes.

The bolt heads were so rusted (reduced below their normal size) that I expected the same for the threads. After an ordeal trying to undo them by hand I resorted to welding a nut on the remains of the now totally rounded off head of the worst bolt. Then an overkill type impact wrench did the rest.

I was flabbergasted to find that all this time I had been battling with just a little Locktite as the threads were totally rustfree!!! The others came off with the impact wrench just fine despite resisting the efforts with the breaker bar.

IMHO, the short sharp blows of an impact wrench are less likely to shear a bolt than the conitinous loading with a breaker bar and more likely to break the loctite and/or rust bonds.
