Something to be said for RWD

Almost all fine cars are RWD.

    Rolls, Ferrari, Mercedes, etc,

Most race cars are RWD, including Formula 1

Front wheel cars are popular because they have manufacturing advantages and offer form factors allowing a better use of space

Prime example - BMC Mini - an efficient box with a drivetrain attached to the front.

    BTW - I had a 1961 morris 850 which was a hoot to drive.

Also an MG 1100 - a luxurious mini that looked great - do a search for MG 1100, then select images to see this great little car with hydrostatic suspension. This car was very compliant front to rear, but had almost no lean side to side.

I have never seen another one in this country!

That's Hydrolastic suspension. Was once the most popular car in the UK. They first brought it to the USA as your MG 1100 "Sports Sedan". Later BMC marketed a 1300cc version called the Austin America. A good percentage of those imports were sold with an automatic transmission which, as you can imagine, didn't often last very long.

They are indeed hard to come by. Lacking the cachet of the Mini but sharing the drivetrain, many Austin America engines have made their way into Minis, providing a nice displacement upgrade.

Thanks for the correction - the front and rear were connected, but no connection side to side.

My uncle was a part time used car salesman and he travelled around New England selling shipping contracts for a trucking company. He stuck his nose into every used car lot and body shop he came across.

He found the following cars for me - 1960 SAAB 93 (two stroke with suicide doors), 1960 Morris 850 (mini - as you probably know), 1963 MG 1100, Corvair station wagon, and a Gremlin.

He had some neat cars - the 50s Dodge that was designed for women (pastel three tone and a fitted umbrella and other goodies) a cab forward Jeeo from the Navy, and a Ramblerero ( a ranchero, made from a Rambler, that had a slanted roof front and rear - the driver's door window was two inches long at the top!)

Go to youtube and search for Volvo Sno Race.

Also - Traktor racing volvo terror

I had a '90 744 TI that would drift completely around a 1/4 mile oval rotary when I had worn snow tires.
