My question is about the Aisin fan clutch. The standard one has a base flange that is painted red. The Tropical flange is painted black. One of my current cars has a green flange. Does anyone know what heat range this is targeted for?

Well now there’s something I didn’t know about. Can you find a Volvo p/n on it? 1306259 for the std fan, 1357433 for the tropical fan. My googling suggests the tropical fan almost always has a black flange and the standard fan is more often green than red/orange. Color differences could be from being a non-Volvo source as Aisin made these viscous clutch fans for a number of auto makers, plus there were aftermarket copies, those possibly even being rebuilt cores.I remember when one of mine failed, my indie put in a solid, flexi plastic blade to save me a fair few dollars. Supposedly flattened as the rpm rose, plus far less mass to rotate. Seemed to work okay and was definitely quieter.
