Best Hood Release Method W/ broken Cable 900

I haven't experienced this problem yet, but I support a bunch of 940s my daughters, my wife, and I drive and while working on one of the 940s my daughter hit a deer with her 940 I couldn't help but wonder what the best way to get the hood open if the release cable broke.

If the cable to the two hood latches should break under the hood, what is the best method to get to the latches to release them?

Thank you.

On the 850's (same system as the 940's) I lube my latches annually. That takes a lot of stress off the cables.

Keeping it running is better than buying new

On the 700s. Takes removing belly pan then some super long needle nose. Can't remove the 700 grill without having hood open unless you don't mind busting it.

My plan is to have an emergency length of wire which hangs down beside the radiator. It's quite unobtrusive and not easily seen, but will open the two catches if pulled downwards. Haven't had to use it of course, and probably never will!!

If it lifts at all you might be able to get your fingers to the latches. Or try to find the cable from underneath. Failing all else, remove the grill to access the latches.

Caveat - I don’t have specific 940 hood/broken cable experience so there might be better methods. My experience comes from contorting my upper extremities to open a stuck Volvo 850 hood and a Passat wagon with a broken release at the latches end.
