Zenith carbs on an aluminum manifold 1800

I have a couple of zenith carbs that were on a cast iron "siamese" manifold on a different car. I was wondering if they will work ok on an SU aluminum manifold. The reason i ask is that as far as i can tell, the zenith carbs rely on richening the mixture for initial start (choke) on only one of the two carbs. This is probably ok on the siamese manifold were the intakes from both carbs were mixed at low RPM. But the mixing on the aluminum manifold looks only incidental. Has anyone tried this and have any experience to report?

SU's on the good siamesed cast iron manifold (123GT style with no emissions butterflies) are by far the best combination. If you have those it's not worth wasting time and money attempting to make up any other pairing.

They will work but as you suspect idle will be lumpy with the "choke" engaged. It will probably take a learning curve on how long and how far engaged you have to keep it on. I'm sure the motor will start OK and once warmed up perform OK. You do however realize they are not as easily adjustable for mixture as the SU's are. -- Dave
