69 1800 turn signal trouble

Hi, I am looking for help from all of you electrical gurus. The wiring in our 1800 was in terrible shape when we bought it. There were multiple splices, wiring run under the car unprotected, missing insulation, wires not connected to anything and so on. I tore it all out and replaced it with a universal harness. I hooked up the column harness to the original turn signal switch and all of the lights work, but not as the should. They all flash at the same time and not one side to the other. Has anyone else gone this route with their 1800 and experienced similar problems?

    Hello,

Make sure you wired the emergency flasher switch correctly and that you are using the correct flasher relay.

      Hello,

Thanks for replying.I haven’t hooked up the hazard switch yet. Since they should work independently would it matter if it is hooked up or not? The flashers are attached to a modern fuse block so I am assuming that they are correct.

      Thanks again,

      Rick

        Hello Rick,

When Volvo made the emergency flasher switch standard equipment on the 1800 starting in 1968, they made the turn signal wiring go through the emergency flasher switch.

In fact there is only 1 flasher relay and it has 3 poles and plugs directly into the back of the stock dash mounted emergency flasher switch.

Do you have a wiring diagram for the original wiring?
