hi rwd sages- backing up, bumped into to an arbutus tree and cracked out a piece of the LR taillight lens(top of the stacked 4 lenses). inquired of 4 aftermarket suppliers and best price was 67 which included shipping and junk fees. caused a mild case of sticker shock. any way to just replace the broken lens and and glue on a new lens if they are even available. seems the lenses are glued to the rubber ring on the housing. that must have been amazing glue volvo used since it held and didn't leak all these years. hope you have good news for me my bruthas. oldduke

Hey oldduke,
While I do not know him personally I have purchased from Frank Ponte.
I can say he had very good response to my inquires and he shipped right away. I certainly wouldn't hesitate to buying from him.

Hiya Uncle Old Duke,
No luck in searches around your FL-state area.
On facebook, there is Frank Ponte in Livingston NJ. He used to own a Import Volvo auto service for decades. He has a small salvage yard and sells parts on facebook.
Unsure whether more or less expensive.
Compare prices FCP Euro is closer to you as they are in Groton CT versus iPd being in Portland, OR.
If going for URO, the best price helps. Your 1992 240 Wagon uses the third brake light and uses that sort of pesky dual filament 1157 bulb in the bottom red lens for park & brake light.
Else, maybe try eBay? Yet used light versus new, if indeed after market, should be okay ...
I told Frank Ponte about your post and he may reply here.
Frank Ponte on facebook.

Hope that helps.

hi kit g- always a distinct honor and pleasure to hear from you. ebay is almost impossible to use. not user friendly. tried 4 other sources . carid had a new one from uro parts which has a good rep for quality and the best price so far 67. another poster told me if I can get it for that bottom line to get it. other sources wanted more even up to 95. will try to contact frank ponte. . have ordered other stuff years ago from fcp and had a good experience. you know me , hate to get clipped. been in Livingston NJ a few times back in the jersey days. near Rutgers . the 92 245 does have the 3d brake light on the door. haven't had to replace the bulbs in the driver taillight . didn't realize but should have ,that the lower bulb in the stacked light which is as you say park and brake is 1157. most don't rememba but that replaced the 1034 which did the same thing. the 1157 double filament bulb required careful positioning to catch both contact terminals.it also had a tendency to corrode/ weld itself to the socket. always tried to use anti corrosion grease on it.otherwise you might risk using very bad words when you tried to replace the bulb. since the socket was often hot and cooled down fast attracting rust. remember bad words do offend local church ladies. keep in touch. hope I hear from or make contact with mr. ponte. thanks tons oldduke

Hiya Uncle Old Duke!
Sure Happy it's Sundae (all day long)!
1034 or 1157 bulbs? I found this page. I had no notion these bulbs were interchangeable.
https://itstillruns.com/difference-1034-1157-car-bulbs-7793624.html
I have two huge bags of junk yard bulbs for 240. With a few 1157 yet do have 1 or 2 1034s. I tested the bulbs with a 9V battery last year keeping the bulbs that worked. I have bulbs from the 1980s!
Wholly forgot again! Imagined CB would dive right in with the link to his oft-mentioned Voluparts in Atlanta, GA!
Website:
https://www.voluparts.com/
They sell used and new parts. If an economical choice I'm unsure. Yet how much do you want to spend on used versus new.
Oop, just found the Voluparts Volvo PN 1372411. 75$ + ship.
https://store.voluparts.com/81-93-240-wagon-tail-lights/
URO is not like the made in Estonian tail lights that used butyl rubber to secure the lens to the tail light reflector housing for sedan and wagon. The Estonian tail lights may use a more proper adhesive sealant now.
67$ for a new US driver side 240 Wagon 1985-1986+ tail light Volvo PN 1372441 for your 1992 wagon from Car ID. I'll bet a price impossible to do better?
A quick check on Bing and (ever more useless) Google.
Amazon is 67.77 for URO tail light with free shipment (cheapest on Amazon):
https://www.amazon.com/URO-Parts-1372441-Light-Assembly/dp/B0066TB79C

From Swedish Car Parts in Bensenville, IL for 50$:
https://www.swedishcarparts.com/parts/924-1372441-volvo-wagon-245-240-tail-light-housing-only-left-side-driver-side
The image here shows the circuit board side of these made in Estonian tail lights support the bottom dual filament bulb holder for 1157 bulb. Yet product description suggest fits 240 wagon up to 1984. Unsure whether uses real adhesive to weld the lens to the reflector body or that butyl rubber adhesive. The butyl rubber gets soft in hot ambient temps and the lenses move around.
May call and ask a sales or support person for a better description and cost to ship to you. There info on these tail lights appears a little in accurate. Verify the bottom red lens cicuit board contacts are there to use the dual filament bulb holder.

Sold on eBay by Swedish car parts here. The final image suggests the made in Estonia tail lights do not use butyl rubber now and that the lenses may be chemically welded to the reflector body as with OEM and URO. Yet I'm unsure.
eBay: Volvo 240 245 station wagon Tail Light taillight Left side new 1372441:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/Volvo-240-245-station-wagon-Tail-Light-taillight-Left-side-new-1372441-/361376677755
No shipping. Buy from Swedish Car Parts directly may mean a shipping fee to you in FL-state.
All I can find now on Google and Bing at a cursory glance.
Hope that halps yoo.
No cGMP job for me - After three months, and after completing the back ground check and pre-employment physical, references check, criminal and credit (HA!) background check. the client company is so goofy the requisition to hire me was approved, I guess? Yet final approval came down to a single exec who says, no cGMP for Kitty.
So I'll be double dipping them used tea bags again and again for the next months. No more jewelry and SCUBA watches to sell. Try to sell the Lionel model railroad layout been in a box since 1982. So much for another hobby. bye-bye.

Hiya Uncle Old Duke!
Happy Sundae!
Did you yet buy a replacement driver side tail light to replace the damaged taillight on your 1992 240 Wagon?
If not, I finally found the box of 240 Wagon Tail lights today that I'd been looking for since you posted about your taillight. Have two or three each of left and right in various conditions. A little later, I'll open the box and photo the two best examples for the left rear tail light.
Did not want to mention earlier if I lost the box and did not want to dash any hope I could help.
I also have or had that specific red lens for right rear tail light. Rolled through the 240 parts boxes. Did not find that (yet). I'll guess the damage to your taillight is beyond merely damage to the red lens only.
I've had these things for a long time yet thought I lost the box. Have them now. I can send to you.
I'll send to you for the cost of postage only. Though USPS is sort of cheapo so I'll figure that out if you remain in need of a right rear taillight for your 1992 Volvo 240!
I'll post up images later today or early tomorrow.
Hope that helps.

hi kit- thanks for the info. just received a new light I bought from carid.com . they had the best price 67. total. spoke with other vendors but their prices were too high. if I would have bought from the others, id be banished from the cheap bastids society. looks like it will work , although it is all plastic. hope I don't destroy it in the process. maybe I should have been more patient. will put you at the top of my list of 240 parts vendors. don't throw away those boxes of parts. looks like the light is held in with 2 screw threads that protrude into the fenderand are held by hand tightened nuts. will have to be careful when I wire it for the 4 lamps of different functions. don't want to be chased by a coppa on a high speed getaway at midnight on tobacco road tipped off by my left taillight not doing what its supposed to do. youre right about usps being the best deal. their price usually beats anybody. strangely not all vendors offer usps as a shipper. btw have a helluva funny story for you about Jonathon winters if youre interested. he was one of my favorites my other two were don rickles and red skelton who could genuinely be funny as hell without being mean. appreciate your help. next time ill be more patient. btw #2 the only part that broke in the old light was lens pieces in the upper red light . on close inspection it appears I might reglue them successfully with seal all tube glue which is clear fast and very strong . have used it on many tasks. only concern would be leaks. will do it when I have it out on the table. we have nam type monsoons her in se fla. rained like hell for about 10 hrs yesterday. luckily no congs though. just door shysters. regards oldduke

Nope. Looked Hy and Loe. Here and there. Hither and yon.

hi kit g- thanks for the effort. checked a few places and most wanted to soak me for the fasteners. remember the dollar will never drop in value as low as some shysters will stoop for it. anyway lowest delivered price was 13 from voluparts of ga for two new black ones(including shipping). black are cheapest. brown and blue ones are mo doe. only downside is purists will downgrade me when they see them at the next volvo 245 wagon show in palm beach . would you frown on this heresy of mine? will check out those movies and books. thanks tons oldduke

Hiya Uncle Old Duke!
'Tis the season to start discussing all matters covering your Volvo 240 Wagon with M47 II?
I searched more through my 240 parts boxes. No 240 spare tire thumbscrews. I know I removed a a few pairs from junkyard 240 Wagons years ago.
Hope all trips on Tobacco Road over and under Stinking Creek proceed smoothly!
Hope to hear from you soon!!!!
Hope you are in the finest of fettles, in the pink, and right as rain!!!

Happy Sat-Your-Day Uncle Old Duke!!!!!
The very best honor to read and hear from you!!!!
Glad you got the tail light your satisfaction!!!!
Can't find the 245 cargo area spare tire cover thumbscrews. I have a few bags of 240-interior-plasti parts. My 245 DL wagon is a beige inside like yours. Yet had a set or more sets of not tan thumbscrews.
Maybe looking at the wrong boxes.
The 245 tail lights I have are weird. They are not the Estonian lights. Unlike the Volvo Valeo / Hella OEM tail lights, they have this extra plastic piece in the upper red lens parking lights. They rattle around inside. The lenses are clear and such. I'll post images when I get off my dead duff and back on my dyin' feet! Wiring them up to power all the bulb filaments so you could see the driver side one. I have a pair of these 245 1986+ tail lights. I think they are URO / MTC. No "Made in Estonia" on them.
Always honored and so very much enjoy your stories about your family relations and pals like Uncle Moe and Annie Greensprings and others!!!
Oh, no need to be patient. Gotta have them bright and clear tail lights when motoring in your 1992 Volvo 240 with M47 II on Tobacco Road while transiting the bridge over Stinking Creek!
Very much love all the comedic actors you mention including Don "Mr. Warmth" Rickles (As Johnny Carson would call him, Red Skelton, and Jonathon Winters and their colleagues.
What story you have to tell about Jonathan Winters, please?
Sorry for the sloe (gin) reply.
Thank you!!! Happy Sat-Your-Day!!!!!
Hope you, Annie Greensprings, Uncle Moe, the family, and others are in the finest of fettles, and are safe and sound!!! Maybe sharing a bottle of the ripple, I hope!?!?!?
Been Stag (Lager) Beer here. Nothing else. Maybe some buttermilk and strong tea.
A remote technical writer job in Spokane Valley, WA I'll try for here. In a year or six months move back to the North with the piney trees, mountains, craft ale, (usually) smooth roads, no humidity (so Volvo 240 slows it's rusting to pieces).
Happy Sat-Your-Day!!!!
Cantankerous Kitteh and some more Stag Beer Cans!!!

Sorry to read of your troubles, old duke. The problem with aftermarket stuff for these old Volvos is that many time the quality is subpar. They are new and look like it, but their longevity is questionable.
Your time might be better spent looking for a decent used one. It may not look new but it could very well provide good service for a decent price.
