Thanks everyone for the suggestions.

I was actually only thinking about trying to find new inner door seals, however, for some reason it never occurred to me to try to get used ones in good shape.

I'll try the suggestions presented here.

Thanks for you suggestions.

Keep in mind--there are 2 types of inner seals. The older design type are solid rubber and where it rests against the body is a flat surface. The other (newer) type is hollow like a "tube". I don't know when they made a change - maybe just a matter of local supply during manufacture of the car. The '89 245 I just scrapped had the hollow type. My other '89 245 (my outdoor tool box) has the flat type. My '93 245 V8 project has the flat type. I have a few stored away and available. - Dave

Good to know -- I just know what I got at the JY went right on the car and functioned beautifully.

my 1983 244T has door seals that fit within a slot on the inner door. so the seal edge on the bottom is a "T" that slides within the slot on the door.

I was trying to get exact fitting to make sure it actually fits.

I ordered used set from voluparts (which I've used before). Just didn't consider used. My old set are in decent condition, it just has some wind noise now. I've taken them off and refitted them and the noise was reduced dramatically, but not gone.

I'll see what the "new" used set is like.

Thanks all,

May be you should look at the top and bottom hinges adjustment and also the door closing device (I dont know the proper name right now).

One technique I used to find out how tight the door is pressing the seal around is as follows:

- use a 6 inch strip of polythene and close the door on it. Then pull the sheet to see how hard it is to pull it out.

- repeat this all around the door and find where the seal is not touching the door frame, then that should tell you where to adjust, the top and bottom hinges and the door lock. If you cannot find success you could try with an other seal. Sometimes door seals are crushed due to too tight adjustment during lot of years.

- the seal does not have to be squeezed very hard, just touching the door frame all around is enough. Otherwise if adjusted too tight will make the door hard to close.

Hope you find a solution.

A few years back I went to the pick/pull and bought all the inner and outer seals from a 93 4 door 240.

I have a 242 -- so I had to take extra length from the rear doors to 'close the gap' on the longer doors on mine. And I added the outer seal which mine never had.

11 years newer seals + the outer seals meant quieter around the front doors.

Quieter around the front doors meant I could hear wind whistling around the rear pop out window seals.

Sigh....

Hi,
You must have not looked very hard so far?
Are you wanting only one door or a whole set of seals?

Dismantling yards should have them and if their really into it bagged up.
I have seen on here in some various posts about a place in Georgia that brags about how much they have under a roof!

I would try any junkyard that has a 240 body on their inventory with doors or not.
I have seen lots of cars in the past couple years that have their weather stripping still hanging in them in normal good shape.
I think either sides are interchangeable but no from front to rear, of course.
Lots of yards will let you look around with them or not depending on their rules if you don’t carry in tools. Some are self serving for a couple bucks!

There are several parts hunters on the Internet that work from or out of many yards that will pull what you need for you and do shipping.
I know this because I chat with them out of curiosity. They even get their girlfriends into it.
Hey, it’s a side job for either sex these days and no doubt a good freelance for hands willing to get dirty!

I picked up a trunk seal seal last year it’s only a slight slit or tear in the soft rubber top and barely an inch long.
You can put a short thin piece of windshield washer hose in the center for support and just super glue the edges to keep it from getting any worse.

Anyways, food for thoughts!

Phil

Hi CB,

I knew someone would know about that place. I couldn’t recall the name of the place.
Thank for the backup!

You know, I was probably thinking wrong about what he was asking!
I was thinking about the inner trim that covers the pinch welds around the door openings.
He might be needing the soft rubber trim that fit the doors itself.
In this case, the car would have to have its doors! Duh?

For his information, If he needs those, I found out it’s best to buy the whole darn door and get all of the inner workings.
If one is really lucky it is in the same color for the car in need. I did that once for $40 and a perfect ‘84 Maroon match with the same amount of fade too!

I have four electric 240 doors off one other car, but unfortunately, to get the deal I had to strip the rest of the cars complete console. I had to accept a silvery color. I take hinges and all back then, ...on hoods for example, they now will nick-pick you death out at the gate, if you let them!

The good days of scrounging are slipping away on these cars!

Phil
