ABS Control Module Location? 200 1993

ABS light is always lit now, so I'm trying to diagnose the problem following the Green book. But I don't find the ABS control module in the passenger foot well as described. I pull out the sound proofing, as well as both plastic side panels - nothing. It's also no under the passenger seat or carpet as some have suggested.

Where do I find the ABS control module on a 93 240 wagon?

Thanks!

Used ABS relay received, installed and problem solved. ABS light is 'out'.

Thank you for all the help!

The post I read was correct, as was Art. I just did not look throughly enough.

Now I need to find a new surge protector - pin 2 has no voltage when fully energized, while pin 1 and 4 do. (Green book troubleshooting)

I'm open to suggestions.

And for an added bonus, the foam under the carpet and metal floor is damp/wet. You can see some water in one of the plastic floor plugs. Crap!

Thanks again for everything.

Hope you find one that doesn't break your budget.

The only one I tried to fix had an open in the relay coil deep inside the winding. If you would forgo the surge protection, the function is replaceable by a standard cube relay.

I pulled mine apart and found the relay winding is an open circuit. I tested it with an ohm meter and then my 12v power supply. No electro magnet.

Fortunately I've found a few on the interweb for less than $40 delivered. All used, so we'll see "how used" next week when one is due to arrive.

Until then, it's sort of fun driving around without a passenger seat.

In the 1991 240 ABS green manual that I found a page for online, the control module is shown living right behind the glove box, more or less right behind in the middle, clipped behind the dash support structure, closer to the firewall. The box you're looking for is a smaller version of what the EZK ignition control module looks like. Hope that helps.

Good old Volvo, especially the 240 team. I often wondered if the assembly plants randomly put things like relays wherever they could hide them to make it some kind of Easter egg hunt for the Vista techs. I particularly liked the later wiper relays which is when I first discovered the drug smuggler cavity nested into the chassis floor just below it -I often wondered how many customs agents at the border crossings know about that, or even people here for that matter. Then you find something you figure is what you’re looking for, but when you check the wire colors it's something else. You make a mental note of it in case you ever do need it, but when the time comes you’ve totally forgotten. One of the first things I liked about the 740s was the troublesome fuse panel and most of the relays in a central and relatively accessible location. And don't even get me started on that main 20 amp LH fuse under the hood in an open fuse holder -how dumb was that!

I hear ya. Maybe someone removed it, or Volvo forgot to put it in? Or our eyes are getting old.

What engineers say and what they mean by it:
Engineering says: "The software is being developed without excessive process overhead."
Engineers meant: The documentation will be written in clear and lucid Chinese.

Ok, so that's where I should literally dig deeper. I did only remove the nuts on the front of the runners, tilt the seat back, and look where the front and rear carpets overlap - I only found the plastic heating ducts.

Stay tuned for more thorough disassembly...

Yes,
The box part I was talking about is down in the body’s framework.
When I took my parts from the junker that duct work may have been already thrown aside and that is why I was attracted to that area to begin with.

Hi,

I was at first thinking that there are modules “directly under” the drivers seat in a box like enclosure.
My second thought is now thinking that its the air bag module for the steering wheel pad!

I don’t know if there are two things in there or not.
I have pulled modules from that area for having those weird things, just because!
I remember an orange colored item.
The cruise module is mounted on top of the steering column, the ABS one eludes me too!

We both need help now! (:)

Phil
