Brakes without booster 140-160

Has anybody done this?

Reason I ask... i use my 144 as a gravel rally car and I want to save weight and remove a failure point. Currently I use a 244 stepped master cylinder (and booster) and have removed the triangulated system so the front of the m/c feeds the rear brakes and the rear feeds the fronts. Calipers are standard.

Any help most welcome!

The power booster on my 1969 144 went south a few years ago. I replaced it with one from another '69 -- that one lasted two weeks. Since then I've done without assist because I was using the car mostly for Time Trials on road courses. Having to apply a lot of pressure on the track was not a problem but driving the car on the street was not enjoyable without the assist. - Dave

I’m using a 244 master with the 5/8 and 7/8 stepped bore. I think the 144 normally has a 7/8 straight bore, so the smaller bore would help.

My car is RHD (Australia) and uses a cross bar arrangement which leaves the booster and M/C on the LHS.

Usually, pedal pressure will be unacceptably high unless the master cylinder is replaced with one that has a smaller bore.

Hi John,

If not already, you may want to also ask at the Turbobricks forum.

Though performance information and the classifieds require account login access.

Hope that helps you.
