Recommend a phone or gps mount system for a 240? 200

Anyone care to recommend a particular phone/gps mount system for my '91 240 sedan?

I'm not sure the dash material will accommodate any type of adhesive that's not permanent.

Maybe there's a style that can fasten the phone to that small flat "tray" area above the radio?

Or.. seems a windshield type may be called for, if any one you care to recommend a specific one? One that works well with the slope of the windshield and dash?

I'm tall, which might make a difference due to placement.

Thanks,
Keith Ostertag

If it's a true GPS, then they all come with suction cup mounts. In my 740 I mounted mine on the windshield. In my '85 Camaro I mount it using a smooth pad stuck under the dash pad and a smooth pad stuck on top of the dash in my '05 Magnum, because those cars have the windshield too far out. If you're using a smartphone with a GPS app, those are more difficult because the mounts I've seen are quite flimsy. Fiddling with those when they get knocked askew is a distraction and will likely attract attention from the gendarmerie. Yet all new cars now have large multi function touch screens in the middle of the dash that are presumably okay. Go figure.

    Keith,

While the previously expressed safety concerns are well-taken, I'm going to start by paying you the respect of assuming you're a responsible adult who follows the law and drives carefully and considerately - a description I think is likely to apply to most Brickboard users. I'm also going to assume you're looking for a safer alternative to picking up your doodad and looking at it to figure out where you're going or, God forbid, fumbling with a map while driving.

Here's what I have used successfully for navigation and receiving handsfree calls, mounted on one of the blank panels between the dash instruments and the radio. You have to insert a sticky magnetic panel inside your phone case which may not be compatible with wireless charging.

Given your description of your height, you might find one of these even better, since it can adjust the viewing angle. I believe the mounting is similar. I bought one but haven't gotten around to installing it yet, so I can't vouch for it.

Either of these options puts your map in the same general area as your speedometer, fuel gauge, turn signal indicators, etc. If you really want to get it up high, there are a number of models that will attach to your window by suction, like this one, but I can't offer any insights except that they seem likely to obstruct your view of the road.

    Good luck!

Thanks much! I especially appreciate that you went through the trouble to post links to the products.

Yes, even though I wouldn't use it very often, occasionally being able to actually look at my GPS rather than just hearing it (through my hands-free blueray earbud) is FAR better than _fumbling with a map_ when I'm driving! Because sometimes I hear it wrong or it doesn't give all the info I need so I need to visually check the screen- not really that much different than checking my speedometer or temp gauge.

As a person that had responded to auto accidents for 38 years, I suggest that your phone be mounted in the trunk or the rear cargo area of your wagon

What happens when the driver crawls to the cargo area to answer his "smart" phone?

I hate phones in cars! I turn mine off before I get into any car. My radio is also off, I don't need a distraction as I just enjoy driving and listening to the car do its work.

As for a GPS, there are directionally challenged people who need a navigation device, like my daughter and sister-in-law. Both program their phones before leaving the driveway. I got my daughter a vent attachment to hold her phone.

funny that once upon the age(of that Pix)...thje Question Most Asked was:

How do you mount a radar detector/ and what is the best model.

that 'open port', on the rt, for the cig lighter, is where the Detector got power.

Smoked.... that was what the other guy thot after getting dusted by this sedan.

My good friend since high school, a couple of years older than me, let's just say upper 60s, was hit in a crosswalk while pushing a loaded grocery cart. Broke his femur and took out the knee on his other leg. The Sat after Thanksgiving.

      Technology baby technology.
Yes it all was captured on a traffic cam...very usefull evidence for the Lawsuit.

so yeh ... mount that stuff in the cockpit of your 3500lb steel tank.
