odometer 900

Dear fellow brickboarders,
Switching gears from my last post.

I can repair a 240 odometer with
new gears and such.

Yet, in exploring the repairs of the odometer
on my 1989 744 it is more intricate.

Has anyone repaired one or know where one
can find instructions about the repairs?

Happy Thanksgiving!
Enrique 442

Dear Enrique442,

Hope you're well. The mainly Yazaki speedometers used in 1989 and later 740 and 940s generally fail because capacitors leak electrolyte onto the circuit boards, which damages them.

Those not skilled at electronics repairs - i.e., able to separate the circuit boards and then to remove and replace failed components - need to find someone with the right talents.

Alternatively, a good used speedometer can be re-set to the mileage showing on a failed unit. APT Instruments (Bloomington, MN) did this for me some years ago, when a speedo failed. The cost was - if I recall correctly - about $65. I'm sure the price is higher.

Hope this helps.

Yours faithfully,

jesecon
